Suspension of Uncle’s Otah Foodstuff Pte Ltd lifted after meeting required standards

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has lifted the suspension of the food business operations by Uncle’s Otah Foodstuff Pte Ltd 1, a food manufacturer which supplies otah products, on 4 October 2022.

2             On 21 September 2022, during an inspection of the said premises, non-compliances such as poor cleanliness, poor segregation and storage of raw, intermediate and finished products in the same freezers were observed at the processing and storage areas. The premises was also found to be poorly maintained. In the interest of public health, SFA directed the licensee to rectify the lapses and take the necessary measures to improve the cleanliness of its premises.

3             Uncle’s Otah Foodstuff Pte Ltd, which was suspended from 21 September 2022 is allowed to resume operations as it has rectified the lapses that were identified leading to its suspension (https://www.sfa.gov.sg/newsroom/food-hygiene-notices/detail/suspension-of-uncle-s-otah-foodstuff-pte-ltd-food-business-operations).

4            Food safety is a joint responsibility as food can be contaminated anywhere along the food chain. While SFA continues to be vigilant and works to ensure that regulatory measures are in place and properly enforced, the industry and consumers must also play their part.

5            All food operators should ensure that their premises are clean and well-maintained, and staff are adequately trained on proper food safety management. SFA will take enforcement action against food operators who do not adhere to regulations or comply with food hygiene and food safety requirements. Offenders are liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to both.

6             Members of the public who come across poor hygiene practices in food establishments are advised not to patronise them but to report to SFA via the online feedback form (www.sfa.gov.sg/feedback) with details for our follow-up investigations.
