Lifting of suspension of Proofer Bakery Pte. Ltd.
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has lifted the suspension of the food business operations of Proofer Bakery Pte. Ltd. (located at 171 Kampong Ampat, #06-12, KA Foodlink, Singapore 368330), a food manufacturer which supplies food products to Proofer’s retail outlets.
2 On 26 October 2021, during an inspection of the said premises, massive pest (live cockroaches, rodent activity and dead rodent) infestation was observed in the food preparation areas as well as in the food delivery trucks. The premises was also found to be poorly maintained. In the interest of public health, SFA directed the licensee to rectify the lapses and take the necessary measures to improve food safety practices and the cleanliness of its premises. As a precautionary measure, SFA had also directed the company to recall the various food products delivered to Proofer’s retail outlets island-wide on 26 October 2021.
3 Proofer Bakery Pte Ltd, which was suspended from 26 October 2021, is allowed to resume operations as it has rectified the lapses that were identified leading to its suspension (https://www.sfa.gov.sg/docs/default-source/newsroom/2021/sfa-media-release-suspension-of-the-food-business-operation-by-proofer-bakery-pte-ltd.pdf).
4 Food safety is a joint responsibility as food can be contaminated anywhere along the food chain. While SFA continues to be vigilant and works to ensure that regulatory measures are in place and properly enforced, the industry and consumers must also play their part.
5 All food operators should ensure that their premises are clean and well-maintained, and staff are adequately trained on proper food safety management. SFA will take enforcement action against food operators who do not adhere to regulations or comply with food hygiene and food safety requirements. Offenders are liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to both.
6 Members of the public who come across poor hygiene practices in food establishments are advised not to patronise them but to report to SFA via the online feedback form (www.sfa.gov.sg/feedback) with details for our follow-up investigations.
