The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has lifted the suspension of Mdm Ling Bakery Private Limited’s (located at 38 Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2, #01-05, Singapore 569511) sale and movement of Mao Shan Wang Snowskin Mooncakes on 24 March 2022.
2 The Ministry of Health (MOH) and SFA received reports of eight separate gastroenteritis incidents involving a total of 39 persons, after consuming Mdm Ling Bakery Private Limited’s Mao Shan Wang Snowskin Mooncakes between 12 and 24 September 2021. One person was hospitalised and has since been discharged. In the interest of public health, SFA directed the importer to immediately stop the sale and movement of the product, and to recall those that had been distributed/sold.
Measures taken by Mdm Ling Bakery Private Limited
3 During the suspension period, Mdm Ling Bakery Private Limited complied with measures stipulated by SFA. The company recalled all the available Mao Shan Wang Durian Snowskin Mooncakes and disposed of 124 sets of the implicated mooncakes on 2 November 2021.
Continuing surveillance
4 Following the lifting of suspension, SFA will continue to place Mdm Ling Bakery Private Limited under close surveillance to ensure that they adhere to food safety requirements.
Public advisory
5 Food safety is a joint responsibility as food can be contaminated anywhere along the food chain. While SFA continues to be vigilant and works to ensure that regulatory measures are in place and properly enforced, the industry and consumers must also play their part.
6 All food operators should ensure that their premises are clean and well-maintained, and staff are adequately trained on proper food safety management. SFA will take enforcement action against food operators who do not adhere to regulations or comply with food hygiene and food safety requirements. Offenders are liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to both.
7 Members of the public who come across poor hygiene practices in food establishments are advised not to patronise them but to report to SFA via the online feedback form (
www.sfa.gov.sg/feedback) with details for our follow-up investigations.
8 To prevent the spread of disease and protect oneself from acquiring infections, individuals should practise good personal hygiene at all times. These include:
- Washing hands with soap and water before eating and after going to the toilet;
- Covering mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, and throwing the tissue away into a bin immediately; and
- Not sharing food/drinks, eating utensils, toothbrushes or towels with others.
