Downgrading of Food Caterer “Kate’s Catering” located at 171 Kampong Ampat, #04-04, KA Foodlink, Singapore 368330 due to Food Poisoning Incident

259 persons were reported having gastroenteritis symptoms after consuming food provided by “Kate’s Catering” located at 171 Kampong Ampat, #04-04, KA Foodlink, Singapore 368330 between 19 and 25 March 2019. 33 cases were hospitalised and have since been discharged, and all have recovered.

A joint inspection by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) was conducted at Kate’s Catering Pte Ltd on 22 March 2019 and 26 March 2019. Several hygiene lapses were also identified during the inspections, including improper thawing of food, and poor food handling and preparation practices of the food handlers. SFA will take enforcement action for the lapses.

The licence of Kate’s Catering was suspended on 26 March 2019 and the suspension was subsequently lifted on 17 May 2019 after Kate’s Catering rectified the lapses and put in proper measures to enhance their food preparation processes.

Following investigations, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has adjusted the food caterer’s food hygiene grade to “C” with effect from 19 July 2019, to be reviewed in 12 months, and will keep the premises under surveillance meanwhile. Food operators are reminded to adhere to good food hygiene and safety processes. Infection prevention practices such as the washing of hands before handling food can greatly reduce the incidence of gastroenteritis when adopted by all key stakeholders, including the industry and public.

Members of the public can view the revised grade after 12 months at this link: http://www.sfa.gov.sg/tools-and-resources/track-records under the “Search Track Records of Licensed Food Establishments”.
