Dear Sir/Madam

REVISED VETERINARY IMPORT CONDITIONS FOR IMPORTATION OF PORK AND PORK PRODUCTS

      We would like to inform to inform you that SFA has reviewed the veterinary conditions for importation of pork and pork products, specifically for the additional requirements for chilled pork. The revised veterinary conditions have been updated on SFA’s website

2       In view of the advancements in meat industry and alignment to international standards, SFA has implemented the following trade facilitative amendments to the existing conditions:

  1. Remove the condition
    "Chilled pork has been produced under strict hygienic condition, vacuum packed and have a shelf life of over 6 weeks."

  2. Update the condition with
“Chilled pork comes from animals originating from a compartment with a negligible risk for Trichinella infection in accordance with World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) Article 8.18.5;
OR
Comes from animals tested negative by an approved method for the detection of Trichinella larvae

OR
Was
processed to ensure the inactivation of Trichinella larvae in accordance with the Codex Guidelines for the control of Trichinella spp In meat of Suidae (CAC/GL 86-2015).

3      SFA will work with the overseas competent authorities to amend the veterinary health certificate in due course. Please note that current veterinary health certificates issued by the exporting countries will continue to be accepted.

4      Traders are reminded that pork and pork products can only be imported from SFA-approved sources. All imported or locally slaughtered pork sides must be deboned at licensed pork cutting/de-boning facilities before going to any processing establishment or retail outlet.

Please refer to SFA website (Track Records for Licensed Food Establishments) on the list of licensees/service providers that are approved to cut and debone the pork side. Traders who are interested to setup the deboning and cutting plant on their own may submit the new application to SFA via the GoBusiness website (https://www.gobusiness.gov.sg/licences).

5      Please contact SFA should you require further clarification.
