Egg Traders

Dear Sir/Madam

Alternative Labelling Method of Unique Identifier Code for Imported Shell Eggs Supplied to Food Manufacturers and Food Services

We are pleased to inform you that we have reviewed the labelling methods of the unique identifier code on imported shell eggs. The primary purpose of this identifier code is for traceability purposes to identify the farm of origin.

2        Currently, SFA accepts stamping of the identifier code on individual egg or labelling on the retail egg packaging as sold.

3        In addition to the above two labelling methods, SFA will now accept labelling of the unique identifier code on transport (bulk) packaging for eggs sold only to food manufacturers or food services. This new option provides egg traders with greater flexibility whilst maintaining egg traceability.

4        However, if egg traders choose to break up the bulk packaging and sell the shell eggs, traders are required to label the eggs for sale through individual egg stamping or labelling on the packaging of the identifier code.

5        Please contact www.sfa.gov.sg/feedback should you require further clarification.
