When many of us think of Singapore, abundant farms don’t immediately spring to mind. That’s understandably so, considering we are an urban metropolis. Yet, dotted around our city are countless of farms that produce a myriad of fresh leafy vegetables, fish and eggs that feed our nation.
Even though space is a luxury in land-scarce Singapore, it has not stopped our local farmers from being innovative, tapping on productive technologies and employing sustainable farming practices to ramp up our local production capabilities.
While challenges such as disease outbreaks, geopolitical tensions and the impacts of climate change make us vulnerable to supply disruptions, we can count on our homegrown farms to find innovative ways to grow food locally. This serves as an assured and regenerative source of fresh food during food supply disruptions.
