Here’s what you can look forward to!
1. How far we’ve come: the Singapore Food Story
One of the highlights of the exhibition is the evolution of the Singapore's food story from its humble beginnings to the challenges that arose with rapid urbanisation and industrialisation, resulting in a decrease in available farmland. Throughout Singapore’s history, we have faced trade-offs and challenges. In tackling these, we have looked towards ingenuity and innovation in exploring new possibilities.
Today, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has a multi-pronged strategy to ensure food security such as import source diversification and local food production. While the Government continues to enhance our food resilience by planning ahead and keeping a close watch on supply risks, find out how businesses and consumers can also do their part!
2. Taking us to the next level: Lim Chu Kang Agri-Food Hub
The global landscape is marked by climate disruptions, geopolitical shifts, and pandemics, which affect food production worldwide. This makes Singapore’s “Grow Local” strategy ever more critical as a form of insurance against global food supply disruptions. At the heart of this strategic initiative lies Lim Chu Kang, Singapore's future flagship agri-food hub.
Lim Chu Kang is envisioned to be a highly productive and resource-efficient agri-food cluster. It will also feature shared facilities that will drive down production costs and enhance resource use for the industry. SFA is laying the groundwork for a thriving agri-food industry by implementing essential infrastructure for water, electricity and transportation. The coordinated approach aims to boost overall productivity and attract a new wave of skilled agri-tech workers to drive the sector’s growth.
The journey ahead will be challenging and trade-offs will have to be made. As a nation, how can we collaborate, prioritise, and devise innovative solutions to collectively enhance our food security?
3. Discover, play and learn: Uncovering insights and have fun
Another fun way for visitors to glean insights into the broader food security picture and understand the trade-offs involved is through the interactive ‘Build Your LCK’ game. It allows players to make choices, and watch the outcomes, implications and consequences unfold.
Visitors can also embark on the Agri-Food Adventure, exploring the exhibition venue to complete simple tasks, for a chance to win prizes upon completion.
In addition, a Farmers’ Market on 2 and 3 Sep offers visitors a unique shopping experience to purchase the freshest local produce while supporting the local farming community.
