Food Testing Services

Overview

Testing of Food & Food Products

With the formation of the Singapore Food agency (SFA) on 1 April 2019, the National Centre of Food Science (NCFS) was established to bring together key competencies in food safety regulatory sciences, food safety diagnostics, and research and development in food safety. Laboratory testing at NCFS is critical component of SFA’s food safety programme as it supports the SFA’s regulatory functions and R&D in food safety.

From 1 Jan 2020 onwards, NCFS has ceased all commercial testing services. You may wish to visit https://www.sac-accreditation.gov.sg for the list of SAC-SINGLAS accredited laboratories in Singapore which can meet your testing needs.

Currently, the National Centre for Food Science (NCFS), located at the International Business Park, is the regulatory food analytical laboratory of the SFA. Its capabilities cover tests for disease, food poisoning and spoilage organisms, harmful chemicals, toxins and economic fraudulence.

Our competent and professional staff adopts internationally recognised procedures and standards in the laboratory testing.

Quality Assurance & Global Standards

Our laboratory practises a rigorous Quality Assurance programme. Besides use of validated methods and reference materials, we also apply strict Quality Control measures at all stages of testing - from sample management to final reporting and verification of test results. Our laboratory actively participates in Inter-Laboratory Proficiency Testing Schemes. Participation in Inter-Laboratory Proficiency Testing Schemes assesses our laboratory's ability to produce reliable test results and are comparable with those analysed by internationally recognised laboratories.

We actively seek accreditation to international standards to provide assurance to our regulatory counterparts that we are adequately equipped, staffed by competent personnel and have a demonstrated capacity to produce accurate testing results through Good Laboratory Practices and Quality Assurance programmes. The NCFS is accredited by the Singapore Accreditation Council-Singapore Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (SAC-SINGLAS) for compliance under the ISO/IEC Guide 17025 "General Requirements for the Competence of Calibration and Testing Laboratories."

We continue to enhance our capabilities to provide effective services and are dedicated to harnessing the latest technology to achieve the highest standards of expertise, technical standards, efficiency and quality assurance in our services.
