Lifting of suspension of Masakan Shaik Sabri Pte Ltd’s food business operations

            The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has lifted the suspension of the food business operations of Masakan Shaik Sabri Pte Ltd located at 3015 Bedok North Street 5 #05-19, Shimei East Kitchen, Singapore 486350 today.

2             On 4 May 2023, during an inspection of the implicated premises, non-compliances such as severe infestation of live cockroaches were observed. SFA officers also detected other food safety lapses such as poor housekeeping and unclean premises.

3             In the interest of public health, SFA had directed the licensee to rectify the lapses and take necessary measures to improve the food safety practices and cleanliness of its premises. The licensee was also required to clean and sanitise the premises, including equipment and utensils.

4              Masakan Shaik Sabri Pte Ltd, which was suspended from 4 May 2023, is allowed to resume operations as it has rectified the lapses that were identified leading to its suspension (https://www.sfa.gov.sg/newsroom/food-hygiene-notices/detail/suspension-of-the-food-business-operation-of-masakan-shaik-sabri-pte-ltd-at-3015-bedok-north-street-5-05-19-shimei-east-kitchen-singapore-486350)

5             Following the lifting of suspension, SFA will continue to place Masakan Shaik Sabri Pte Ltd under close surveillance to ensure they adhere to food safety requirements.

6              Food safety is a joint responsibility as food can be contaminated anywhere along the food chain. While SFA continues to be vigilant and works to ensure regulatory measures are in place and properly enforced, the industry and consumers must also play their part.

7             All food operators should ensure that their premises are clean and well-maintained, and staff are adequately trained on proper food safety management. SFA will take enforcement action against food operators who do not adhere to regulations or comply with food safety requirements. Offenders are liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to both.

8              Members of the public who come across poor hygiene practices in food establishments are advised not to patronise them but to report to SFA the online feedback form (www.sfa.gov.sg/feedback) with details for our follow-up investigations.
