Food Hygiene Recognition Scheme

Food Hygiene Recognition Scheme

The Food Hygiene Recognition Scheme (FHRS) to recognise retail food establishments for their efforts in maintaining high food hygiene standards was first announced in 2018. With SFA’s formation and the consolidation of all food safety functions under a single agency, SFA will be introducing an integrated licensing and recognition framework to replace the annual grading and license renewal system for food establishments. This framework, which incorporates and supersedes the FHRS, awards a longer licence duration for food establishments with higher food safety assurance standards and incentivises food establishments to consistently maintain high standards of food safety. SFA is working on the integrated framework and more details will be announced in 2021.
