High food safety and hygiene standards at Pini Polonia Sp. z o.o ensure quality and wholesome pork imports for Singapore..
In 2012, Singapore’s consumption of beef, chicken, duck, mutton, and pork totalled about 323,000 tonnes – most of which were imported from countries such as the US, Netherlands, Brazil, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand. In addition to these countries, Singapore has been importing small amounts of frozen pork from three AVA-approved establishments in Poland since 2012.
FROZEN PORK FROM POLAND
To foster mutual understanding and encourage more imports from Poland, AVA on 9-14 May 2013 led a delegation of eight traders to visit four meat establishments:
- Pini Polonia Sp. z o.o. (Pig abattoir and pork processing plant)
- Hamburger Pini Sp. z o.o. (Pork processing plant)
- Zakłady Miesne SKIBA (Pig abattoir and meat processing plant)
- Wispasz S.A. (Chicken slaughterhouse)
We also participated in a business matching session with 14 meat exporters and made a courtesy call to Poland’s Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Following the trip, AVA on 16 August 2013 further approved a fourth Polish establishment – Pini Polonia Sp. z o.o – for the export of frozen pork cuts to Singapore. A few delegates have also said they are keen to import products from another one of the establishments we visited.
Pini Polonia Sp. z o.o is the latest establishment in Poland to be approved for export of frozen pork to Singapore.
Said one of the delegates, Mr Liew Yew Fah, Managing Director of Pin Corporation Pte Ltd: “It was a fruitful trip to explore the agricultural strengths of an Eastern European country and we believe that Poland could contribute an important role in meat supply in the coming years.”
FROZEN CHICKEN AND PORK FROM DENMARK
With consistent and high food safety standards, Denmark is one of the countries approved by AVA to export meat to Singapore. However, due to high production costs in Denmark, its frozen meat products have been pricier than those imported from other countries.
Pini Polonia Sp. z o.o is the latest establishment in Poland to be approved for export of frozen pork to Singapore.
Nevertheless, we continued to explore trading opportunities with Denmark during a sourcing trip on 14-17 May 2013. After visiting two chicken slaughterhouses, a pork establishment, and a food processing plant, the delegation was pleased to learn that these facilities are now highly automated, and are thus able to significantly improve cost competitiveness.
In addition, a meeting with the Danish Agriculture and Food Council provided greater insights into the country’s traceability and disease monitoring systems. Delegates have expressed greater keenness to bring in more frozen products from Denmark.
